Friends,

I’ve struggled with undiagnosed health issues since around 2005. I’ve dealt with extreme fatigue, inflammation, paralyzing brain fog, muscle pain, mouth sores, and lots of fun digestive issues. For many years, I had no insurance, and so I simply pressed on—with only my CoFounder Lisa O'Brien-Wentzel knowing the depth of my condition.

Recently, I've had a diagnosis that helps explain my prolonged illness.

I can hands down say that my health has become the most difficult aspect of my life—I've felt like I was being poisoned for almost 10 years—but my condition has gotten increasingly uncontrollable over the past 12 months.

In early August a new doctor ordered an extremely comprehensive number of blood, urine and stool (yay!) tests to try to get to the bottom of my illness. A week later, I received an unexpected (and slightly panicked) phone call from my doctor asking me to come in to ‘discuss my results’...

My Test Results:

It came as a shock when my blood results revealed that I have 'off-the-chart' lead toxicity. In fact, my toxin levels were so high, they earned me an official US State department ‘extreme lead poisoning’ designation.

TESTS INDICATE I’VE HAD LONG TERM EXPOSURE TO LEAD: CHRONIC LEAD POISONING

Well, Mr. Spencer, when you first came into my office you said to me: ‘Doc, I feel like I’m being poisoned’...the good news is that your instincts are very strong...because you are, in fact, highly poisoned. In fact, you’ve been poisoned for quite a few years. You are also the most lead poisoned patient our offices have ever treated. Congratulations.

Removing Lead From Our House: Hard Work!

  • Tested the whole house for lead. Tested the paint
  • With that in mind,my doctors are encouraging me to rest and find space in my schedule to allow myself to get healthy, as it will be an unknown tap on my energy, mental state, and time. They want me to do things I enjoy, and back off on things that 'stress me out.' They encourage me to delegate work and only do 'what I can do' in my work.
  • However, in the end, they predict that I should return to health.
  • That is incredibly exciting for me, because I can't even remember what being healthy feels like. It's frustrating to think that 99% of the people reading this have never met me without lead poisoning, never seen me speak at full potential, never had a conversation where I wasn't struggling internally to communicate clearly...
  • I’m excited to live, write, and speak without lead poisoning!

Treatment:

First off...this is great news!

If you have ever been sick for years with an unknown illness, that first sentence makes perfect sense to you. The team of doctors/nutritionists who have been working with me assure me that almost all my symptoms over the past years are a direct result of my lead poisoning (sadly, my hairline is not from lead poisoning, that is still my ancestors fault).

While lead poisoning does have very scary mental and physical long term possibilities such as brain, kidney and liver damage. It will be some time before we will know what damage has been done in those area of my body.  I’m grateful that this was eventually caught and now treatment is possible.

Unfortunately, the lead has done serious damage to my intestines and I have been on and off antibiotics for almost 5 months now. So, lets hope that my recovery maintain its present course and by the middle of June 2015 I will have made a full recovery!

In mid September I began treatment. Unfortunately, the lead has done serious damage to my intestines, and since my body was in such a compromised condition, September was spent pumping my body with antibiotics to prep my body for treatment,  From then, I have been receiving detoxification treatment to get my lead to safer levels. I'm happy to report that my lead levels are lowering. I'm beginning to have less brain fog, muscle pain, and more energy.

But I still have a long way to go...

Moving Forward:

My doctors are estimating my entire treatment could take another 30 weeks, with ongoing rounds of detox and rest/nutrition replacement (similar to chemotherapy). While my lead levels are lowering, it will take weeks for my body to normalize once the all lead has been eliminated.

With that in mind,my doctors are encouraging me to rest and find space in my schedule to allow myself to get healthy, as it will be an unknown tap on my energy, mental state, and time. They want me to do things I enjoy, and back off on things that 'stress me out.' They encourage me to delegate work and only do 'what I can do' in my work.

However, in the end, they predict that I should return to health.

That is incredibly exciting for me, because I can't even remember what being healthy feels like. It's frustrating to think that 99% of the people reading this have never met me without lead poisoning, never seen me speak at full potential, never had a conversation where I wasn't struggling internally to communicate clearly...

I’m excited to live, write, and speak without lead poisoning!

I Need Your Help:

Over the next 6 months I'll be doing my best to get treatment and rest. This is tough because at LWA I'm the fundraiser, worker-bee, website designer, marketer, planner, speaker. While I'll keep my modest travel commitments (it's great for my soul!) I'll need to take a break from many things if I want to get the lead out!

1# YOUR ONE-TIME DONATION HELPS ERASE MY $18,000 OF LEAD DEBT!

All donations designated "GET THE LEAD OUT!" will be tax-deductible thru Love Without Agenda and paid as a stipend to me, and applied to my medical debt. Any donations exceeding $18,000 will go toward the work of Love Without Agenda. (see #2)

2# BECOME A LWA MONTHLY DONOR! HELP EASE MY 2015 FUNDRAISING WORK

To be blunt, fundraising for Love Without Agenda is horribly stressful for me. Multiply that by x10 for this year.

I have 2 options:

  1. I can use my personal stipend to hire someone to delegate work to—leaving me without money for  living expenses.
  2. I can raise the $1500 a month to bring in some help—and let me rest.  <-------Let's do this!

What I Need:

1#   I NEED TO ELIMINATE MY $18,000 IN MEDICAL DEBT

2#  I NEED MONTHLY DONORS TO COMMIT AN ADDITIONAL $1500 A MONTH
